For Aberdeen Performing Arts, we helped bring their 'Everyone is Welcome Here' message to life with a series of neon installations across their venues.
Everyone Is Welcome Here is APA’s commitment to making their spaces welcoming to everyone – regardless of age, disability, gender, sexuality or race. We liked the idea of taking the message beyond a poster or campaign and making it something people would actually see when they visited one of their venues.
There’s something about neon that works well in a theatre. It’s bright and hard to ignore but still feels at home in a performance space. More importantly it turns a simple message into something you actually come across as you move through the building.
The installations are there for audiences, staff and touring artists – from the entrance foyers through to the stage door – a reminder that these spaces really are for everyone.
We designed the installations for The Music Hall, His Majesty’s Theatre and The Lemon Tree, working with a specialist to produce and install them across APA’s three venues.
We worked with each space to make sure the installations felt right for where they were going. And because neon is quite good at getting itself noticed, they’ve also become a backdrop for the odd selfie along the way.
It’s satisfying when something we’ve designed becomes part of a place and people actually interact with it.
